AS A WELLNESS COACH
THELU - What does it mean?
The name of my coaching company is close to my heart. It originates from two important aspects of my life journey. The first is my family and their vital role in my journey to become a coach. The name Thelu combines all four of our names (Thys, Elnette, Elma, and Luan). This reminds me that my wellness is connected to my family. They are always part of my life story and journey!
Secondly, Thelu is derived from the word Telos, which means ultimate goal. I've had to learn that certain aspects of life are more important than others. My ultimate goal is to serve others and to help them discover what it means to thrive. When I do this, I thrive and honor my ultimate goal. This is my Telos!
MY JOURNEY TO BECOMING A WELLNESS COACH
Part of my DNA is helping people. My personal life goal is to help others find true joy and purpose. For the last 20 years, I have found my calling in ministry, especially as a qualified minister of faith in the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa. I gained invaluable experience in the following areas:

Trauma and pastoral support;

Mediation and conflict resolution.
My work as a minister led me to a PhD at the University of Stellenbosch. The PhD helped me understand my true calling, guiding me to change my career, not my calling. As a trained wellness coach, I can genuinely focus on the emotional, physical, and spiritual (only if required by the client) support of many groups of people I worked with as a minister.
